Community Programs
In the community, SPI has programming at El Centro de la Familia (Paiute Neighborhood Center) and the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation.
El Centro de la Familia
SPI’s El Centro de la Familia at Scottsdale's Paiute Neighborhood Center addresses the needs of Scottsdale's Hispanic population. Innovative prevention programming is provided through youth/family education, community mobilization, health & public safety initiatives and public social marketing. The vision is to build resilience among families and neighborhoods by strengthening and empowering residents with knowledge and a plan of action to improve the health and safety of all persons who live there.
Prevention initiatives focus on: Family substance use/abuse prevention for ages 4-adulthood
Family Literacy & Education: Promotes literacy by affirming the family’s native language and provides enhancing reading and language skills. Specific programs allow children to increase skills and knowledge in decision making and problem solving while learning the consequences of substance abuse.
Community Development: Supports and creates a sense of community participation and personal empowerment to address community protection and risk factors while promoting internal and external collaborations and coalitions. Residents assume leadership roles which embrace the Strategic Prevention Framework.
