WORKSHOPS & GROUPS SCHEDULES

Parent Discussion and Support Groups - Workshops are once a week. If your organization has a group of 8 or more people interested on the program, SPI will schedule the workshops at times and dates suitable to the group. Some of the topics included in the workshops are:

  • Talking with children about sensitive issues (sex, dating, drugs, etc)
  • Effective discipline
  • Clear communication
  • Helping children to avoid risky situations

Chemical Awareness Diversion Program (CAP)

Who can attend? Middle School & High School Students and at least one parent/guardian.

The Chemical Awareness Program (CAP) is an educational diversion program designed for teens caught using drugs/alcohol on or off campus. Teens, with their parents, learn about the dangers of chemical use and abuse, the risk factors that lead to substance use, and strategies to improve family communication, trust and monitoring. Upon program completion, each student will receive a certificate verifying participation.

Topics Covered Requirements
  • What is chemical use/abuse?
  • Risk factors and effects of using drugs/alcohol
  • Dependency and addiction
  • Realistic expectations and strategies for dealing with teen use of drugs/alcohol
  • Effective parent/teen communication skills
  • Prevention and intervention techniques

At least one parent or guardian must accompany and participate with the youth.

Community CAP: For this year, SPI is offering Community CAP one Saturday a month. The workshop session is scheduled from 9:00am to 3:30pm. These monthly sessions are held at the Town of Paradise Valley Police Department, 6433 E. Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley, 85253. A parent(s) and/or guardian must accompany and participate with the student.

Families are encouraged to bring snacks, lunch and beverage as this is a full 6 hour program day. SPI will provide each student with written verification of his/her CAP participation upon completion of the program.
